About the Project

Q-Studio is a capsule design studio that offers ready-made, harmonious, and effective interior solutions to easily transform the surrounding space, saving time and money.

The challenge

Taking into account the conducted interviews and persona developed, how might I create an interface that conveys the brand’s values and idea and emphasizes its character?

My Role:

  • User research & Analysis
  • Persona creation
  • User Journey Mapping
  • UI Design & Prototyping
  • Design KIT
  • Usability Testing

Project Duration: 11 - 25 November 2020.

The Design Process

...

1. Emphasize

1.1 Stakeholder Interviews

The first step of the design process was to gain an empathic understanding of the problem that needs to be solved.  This involved interviewing stakeholders to find out what concerns users have, understand their experiences and motivations, and delve deeper into the ideology of the brand.

Capsule design idea:

''In the capsule, space is completely maintained in a single style, in a single concept. You can rearrange furniture, move the carpet from the bedroom to the living room, swap interior items - and it will still be the same apartment. As if you were changing an outer skin, a capsule shell. "

1.2 User Interviews

I interviewed 12 people so that to find out:

- What are the key factors when choosing a design studio for a home interior?

- Are responders familiar with the 'Capsule design' concept?

- What are concerns that people might have when choosing a design studio?

...

1.3 Pain points

  1. The website is outdated and does not tell a story and transmit the idea of the brand and capsule design. A simple structure with a picture and some texts do not convey emotions and personal style.
  2. The website target those people who already have an idea about capsule design and are thinking of integrating this solution into their interiors.

2. Define

During this step, I analyzed data obtained from the interviews and synthesized them in order to define the core problems.

  • The website needs to address new customers' needs by transmitting the story about diversified and convenient 'capsule design'.
  • Explain the brand’s values and ideology through metaphor and build trust with the brand by conveying emotions and personal style.
  • A design with fast access to significant sections.

2.1 Personas

Based on the interviews I identified 2 main personas types.

Each persona has a scenario that was related to a realistic goal the user might have when browsing a website.

2.1.2 'Time-saver' person.

...

2.1.3 'Money-saver' person.

...

2.2 User Journey Mapping.

A user journey mapping is a sequence of user actions that describes the relationship between the product and its users.

Style Guide

This is a style guide for the Q-Studio brand website and mobile applications. This style guide contains a color palette, layout grid, typography, buttons, icons.

5. Testing

The System Usability Scale (SUS)

I made use of a 10-question Likert Scale - each question rated from 1 to 5, aka SUS that offers a quick, cost-effective yet accurate way to evaluate the usability of a prototype. In total, I tested 12 people. After calculating users' answers, the generated score added up to 83.6 which corresponds to an A grade.

Project Takeaways.

This project proved that taking into account all the interactions that a user might have, both online and offline is of key importance as well as brainstorming alternate user paths, making sure that the customer is supported no matter what happens.
